(the) Rose Theatre
the Rose Theatre [the Rose Theatre]
a theatre built in 1587 near ↑Southwark Bridge in the ↑Bankside area in London, England, where many of Shakespeare's plays were performed and where Edward Alleyn acted. It was used until 1603, when all London theatres were closed because of the plague. Surviving parts of the theatre were discovered in 1989 during work on a new office building and were opened to the public in 1999.
